This one-day tour takes us to the delightful Landmannalaugar valley. Landmannalaugar, which translates as ‘the people’s pools’ lies at the centre of the Icelandic highlands. We enter the highlands through the Thjórsádalur Valley stopping at Hjálparfoss, one of Iceland’s loveliest waterfalls. The tour then takes us into the extraordinary multi-coloured rhyolite mountainscape, a kaleidoscope of pink, brown, green, yellow, blue, purple, black and white sand.
We then arrive in the ‘pearls of the highlands’, the water-filled Ljótipollur crater and the hot springs of the Landmannalaugar oasis where you have an opportunity to bathe in the natural hot springs or join an included gentle guided hike. From the warm pools of Landmannalaugur we make our way to the queen of active Icelandic volcanoes, Mount Hekla. Our specially modified jeeps drive to a height of 950 meters up the side of the volcano, from where you can enjoy the astounding views in all directions.
Depending on the season and weather there is every chance you will see either the Midnight Sun or the Northern Lights.
