Detailed Itinerary: Day 1 We start the tour with a pick up from your accommodation in Reykjavík and a drive to the Arctic Trucks headquarters in Reykjavík for a short briefing on the adventures ahead in the next 2 days. The Arctic Trucks Team will teach you how to drive in different conditions, airing down the tires and driving through rivers and snow.
When everyone is ready we sit behind the wheel of the Arctic Trucks vehicle and we start the trip. We drive to the most special area our backyard has to offer and over a wide variety of tracks, through breathtaking mountain ranges. The Arctic Trucks guide will teach the group some snow driving and we test the limits of the Arctic Truck, we need to deflate the tires and everyone’s help is needed to get the group to the destination. We end the day at Landmannalaugar and the comfy mountain hut at the borders of a warm river. The extraordinary mountains that surround the hut in Landmannalaugar will leave nobody untouched. In the hut, we enjoy a traditional Icelandic Christmas dinner. After dinner the group can relax and enjoy a bath in the natural warm river and hopefully we can see the Northern Lights dancing above our heads. The Icelandic Santa Claus might join us with some Icelandic beers to taste, hot chocolate and cookies.
Day 2 Next morning, we enjoy a Christmas style breakfast in the hut and when the group is ready we start heading back down from the highlands. We drive over rivers, in deep snow and sometimes the GPS is the only way to follow. If conditions are good we visit Hekla Volcano! Hekla is a 1450-meter-high and one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes that had its most recent eruption in 2000. During the Middle Ages, Europeans called the volcano the “Gateway to Hell”. We should be in Reykjavík in the late afternoon, just in time for a gourmet dinner at one of the Icelandic restaurants.
Transfer to and from hotel in Reykjavík, a seat in the Arctic Trucks vehicle – everyone gets to do some driving, fuel and guide, accommodation in a mountain hut for 1 night, sleeping bag rental, lunch and dinner on day 1, breakfast and lunch on day 2, and some Icelandic snacks and treats on the way. We can also book a hotel for you in Reykjavík before and after the trip, send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
